A passenger was shot early Friday morning during a carjacking in Durham, officials confirmed.
Sergeant Hodges with the Durham Police Department, said the call came in between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.
Officials said two men were in a 2002 black GMC Denali with North Carolina plates talking to three women in the 1100 block of Juniper Street when the incident occurred.
A male suspect riding a bicycle approached the vehicle and pulled a gun. One of the males tried to smack the gun away when he was shot in the arm, said Kammie Michael, Public Information Officer for the Durham PD. The suspect then fled in the victims' vehicle and left his bike at the scene.
The victim was taken to Duke Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police describe the suspect as a male, about 6 feet tall, weighing 160 pounds with cornrows. He was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information about the carjacking is asked to call the Durham police.
