Beginning August 15, dogs will no longer be allowed at the Durham Farmer's Market during hours of operation.
The Market's Board of Trustees say they decided to change the animal policy for the health and safety of the customers.
Board members say the decision was a tough one to make, but incidents of dog aggression and dogs relieving themselves in the market prompted the decision.
Customers can still bring their dogs on the lawn and rest of the park, but they are not allowed in the market area. The market area is defined as the space between Roney Street and Foster Street and between Hunt Street and the winding sidewalk on the north end of the Market. Service animals will still be allowed within the Market area.
