DURHAM COUNTY, N.C.

What: In honor of the National Education Association's Read Across America Celebration, we will host a special reading of the newly released book, "Doug-Dennis and the Flyaway Fib" by Nationally Acclaimed author Darren Farrell. Mr. Farrell has graciously agreed to read to our Preschool and Pre-K children and conduct a book signing following his program. He has also planned a fun activity based on his book to inspire our students to tell the truth. More than 115 children at the Primrose School at Hope Valley Farms will celebrate literacy with more than 45 million readers nationwide. The preschoolers, ranging in age from 1 to 5-years-old, will wear handmade hats with their favorite words adorned on the front during the Parade of Words. Additionally, the children will wrap up their book drive with a donation to the local Reach Out and Read chapter, a nonprofit committed to promoting literacy through pediatric primary care.

NEA's Read Across America Day is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading during the Month of March to honor Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Who: New York author, Darren Farrell, who has authored the newly released book "Doug-Dennis and the Flyaway Fib", will be a guest reader at the event and will talk to the children about what it means to tell the truth and how fibs affect our relationships. He will also be signing books for local children and a portion of the signed books will be donated to the children at the Student Health Action Coalition, UNC School of Medicine. Our students are also brining a book to donate to a child in need. The Durham Rescue Mission will be able to use the books donated by the children to help other children in the community develop a love of reading and have books easily within their reach.

Interviews can be arranged during the celebration on March 29 with our guest reader, the school representative, children and parents attending.

When: Monday, March 29, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Where: Primrose School at Hope Valley Farms, 702 Juliette Drive, Durham, NC 27713
