More New Years Parties In Durham For 2009

DURHAM, N.C. -

In the midst of a struggling economy, Durham residents will have more options to bring in 2009.

According the Durham Convention and Visitor's bureau, Durham will have two more New Year's Eve events this year than last. Reyn Bowman with the Durham CVB says the increase in festivities -- nine in all -- is likely due to businesses trying to increase end-of-the-year profits. Bowman says it's likely fewer people will travel out of town, as well, which creates a fertile market for New Year's events.

Bowman added that optimism about the upcoming Obama administration could also contribute to the increased options.

According to the Durham CVB, the following events are planned for New Year's Eve:

Blue Year's Eve Ball
Featuring DJ LV & DJ Awsum. Admission $15 plus membership fee. Private LGBT club.
