Hope Valley Elementary School and a daycare were on lockdown for a short time Thursday while law enforcement searched for home invasion suspects.
A parent who has a child attending Hope Valley Elementary, as well as a child at Primary Colors Child Care Center across the street from the school, earlier in the day said that he was told to call the daycare because the school was on lockdown.
An employee at Primary Colors Child Care Center, located at 3008 Dixon Road, said that employees were told to put the daycare on lock down and not let anyone in or out, due to an armed gunmen breaking into a nearby home.
According to Durham Pollice, a home invasion took place on Courtney Creek Boulevard shortly before noon. Police were given the description of the suspects' gold Dodge Dorango. An officer stopped the car on University Drive and Dixon Road, which is near the school. Police arrested one person and the other suspects ran, starting the search. Because the school was so close to where the armed men took off, they put the school on lockdown.
The lockdown was lifted from both the school and the daycare center shortly before 2 p.m.
