DURHAM, N.C. -

City Looks Into Overtime Audit

Durham city leaders are looking at ways to improve overtime and compensation leave policy after an audit found several red flags.

Monday night, the city approved the full report which gave suggestions for ways to improve overtime pay and compensation.

The internal audit found two instances that didn't comply, which included one department awarding overtime pay when 40hours of work weren't completed. The other instance had to do with not including sick, vacation and other paid leave time when computing overtime pay. Deputy city manager, Ted Voorhees, said the city has already begun revamping policy and procedures to comply with the audit's suggestion.

City Works Lessen Confusion Over Water Restrictions

Monday night Durham City Council members adopted work group recommendations for year round water conservation measures. For six months the city of Durham, Raleigh, Cary and other cities around the Triangle have been working to come up with a consistent water conservation plan. During the drought of 2007-08 there was a lot of public confusion as to what each water restriction stage applied to each municipality.

The water management conservation group worked to apply a unified system that would apply to most cities and relieve that confusion.

Once every municipality approves the proposed changes, the water management conservation group will draft a final copy which will be approved in February or March.
