DURHAM, N.C. -

On Thursday, December 11, from 6:00 - 8:00p.m., we will hold the 5th Annual Peace Toys for War Toys Exchange. Here parents bring their pre-K and elementary school children to the Community Family Life and Recreation Center at Lyon Park to throw away their "war toys" and take home a new "peace toy." War toys are any type of violent toy, from killer robots and toy guns to violent video games. Peace toys are those that encourage creative and nonviolent activities.

North Carolinians Against Gun Violence (NCGV), Calvary Ministries of the Westend Community, Inc. (CMWC, Inc.) and Durham Project Safe Neighborhoods sponsor and organize the Toy Exchange with support from the City of Durham, local law enforcement, after-school programs, religious congregations, local businesses, community groups and individuals.

The Toy Exchange is a chance for the community to demonstrate that violence is not child's play, and serves
as a reminder of the staggering number of people who have been killed or injured by guns. The event is also a fun way for community leaders and parents to encourage kids in nonviolent play.

The festivities begin at 6pm with a pizza dinner, followed by a chance to visit a few of the breakout sessions
for families including children's gun safety video, Hands Without Guns activity, Balloon Krazy balloon
twister, Rags to Riches improv group, EOG information session and of course, the Toy Exchange!
