Durham County residents Shameika Green and Julie Brady have recently began taking classes for nursing.
"I really enjoy medicine and learning about the body," Green said.
While, she made the decision to do nursing before the economy entered recession, Green said she is happy her career choice will likely lead to stability for her future.
"It was more of a career choice that will grow with me when I decide to get married and have kids," she said.
Kevin Dick with the Durham's Workforce Development Center says nursing is only one of many industries that will stay in demand.
He says people should, "look for the positions that are still growing in spite of the recession," when considering a job.
