Some choir students from Jordan High school performed for their largest audience on Thursday night.
The 20 Jordan High choir students -- sophomores, juniors, and seniors -- performed during the latter half of Thursday night's Kenny Rogers Christmas concert at the Durham Performing Arts Center.
The students' performance lasted for about a half-hour. They sang Christmas favorites like ‘Joy to the World,' and "Silent Night' along with the county music icon, and children from the Durham Children's Choir.
"I've grown up listening to a lot of country music, so when I heard I was singing with Kenny Rogers, I was really excited," said senior David Weaver.
For student Ruth Penado, the concert is a pride point for her school.
"It makes me even more proud to be a Jordan student than I already am, so it's really good," she said.
The students' teacher said the performance plans started with a phonecall by a community leader. In preparation for the concert, students sang along with a DVD of Rogers' set, and perfected their harmonies.
"It's a lot of hard work, it's a lot of after school, it's a lot of effort put into it, but it comes out good in the end," Weaver said.
The students arrived at DPAC at 5:30 PM on Thursday for a dress rehearsal. The concert began at 7:30.
Rogers is quoted as saying, "...there is nothing more spectacular than a choir that's stepping out there, and they really give the show such majesty."
