The deadline for Wake County parents interested in applying to a magnet school for the 2009-2010 school year is approaching. The application period ends this Friday, Feb. 28.
Magnet School Online Application
This year's applications will only be accepted on-line. Parents of kindergartners must register at their base school in addition to applying for a magnet school.
Students who are already in the magnet program and will remain at the same school do not need to complete an application; however students in fifth and eight grades do need to apply for admission to middle and high school program magnets and year-round middle schools.
According to the Wake County Public Schools website, the following factors are taken into consideration for approval of magnet status:
*Was the application on-time?
*Transportation patterns
*Siblings
*School capacity
*Classroom capacity
*Diversity
*Present magnet/year-round status of applicant
The following factors are not a consideration:
*How early your application arrives
*Additional information or extenuating circumstances
*Requests for specific schools (Applications are for programs. School assignment is based on the home address.)
