Members of the Durham City Council say they have been assured the state won't cut their revenues for the rest of the year.
Diane Catotti and other city council members met with state representatives for a working breakfast on Monday at Durham City Hall.
According to Catotti, state leaders, including State Rep. Mickey Michaux (D-Durham) told the council that their priority is to keep social service funding and education funding from experiencing any further budget cuts.
Catotti said Michaux told the council they would not see any cuts in revenue.
"We're very hopeful and we received some assurances today that they don't intend to withdraw our local funding," she said.
At the breakfast, council members also asked for permission to add $5 to the city's vehicle registration fees.
Right now, those fees are at $10.
If approved, city leaders say the price hike would bring in an extra $750,000 for public transit every year.
