ORANGE COUNTY, N.C.

Two successful local companies are collaborating to produce one delicious beer. On March 11th, Carolina Brewery will tap its Jumpin’ Bean Coffee Stout, a rich complex beer made using coffee from Sumatra’s Gayo Organic Farmers Association, locally roasted by Counter Culture Coffee. This seasonal beer will be sold on tap at Carolina Brewery Chapel Hill and available at select local grocery retailers for a limited time. “We have proudly served Counter Culture Coffee in our restaurants for over ten years and always look to use local ingredients whenever possible in our food and beer,” says Carolina Brewery owner/operator Robert Poitras. “We especially feel some kinship with Counter Culture, since both companies started around the same time and have both enjoyed success on a regional and national level.”“It’s great partnership in many ways. Carolina Brewery’s quality-focused, artisan approach to beer mirrors our own quality-driven, relationship-based approach to coffee,” said Counter Culture President and co-founder Brett Smith. “The Gayo coffee they chose for this new stout is one of our most popular, full-bodied, and flavorful single-origin coffees produced by a community we have worked with for years. We’re excited about what will certainly be an amazingly good beer.”Carolina Brewery will begin serving Jumpin’ Bean Coffee Stout at its West Franklin Street location on Wednesday March 11th. The stout will also enjoy a limited run on tap at Carolina Brewery & Grill Pittsboro and will be available to go in half-gallon growlers at both locations and at local grocery retailers. Carolina Brewery and Counter Culture Coffee will join together for special tastings of Jumpin’ Been Coffee Stout and Gayo coffee at Parker & Otis in Durham on Friday March 13th, Wine Authorities in Durham on Saturday March 14th and at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro on Saturday March 28th. All events are free and open to the public. “By carefully blending the best locally roasted coffee with the world’s finest roasted malts, we’ve created a full flavored brew that will satisfy the most discriminating beer and coffee drinker alike, says Carolina Brewery Director of Brewing Operations Jon Connolly. “In this special brew we use Organic Gayo coffee, which is smooth, sweet and low on acidity. This shade grown coffee also has nice hints of dry cocoa that complement the rich caramel malts in this beer.”Event Details:Carolina Brewery and Counter Culture Coffee will offer free stout and coffee tastings at the following retail locations:Friday, March 13: Parker & Otis, 112 S Duke Street, Durham (5:30-8pm)Saturday, March 14: Wine Authorities, 2501 University Drive, Durham (12-2pm)Saturday, March 28: Weaver Street Market, 101 East Weaver Street, Carrboro (3:30-6pm)About Carolina BreweryCarolina Brewery is a locally-owned brewery and restaurant that has drawn international attention for its handcrafted beers, all brewed in-house by Brewmaster Jon Connolly and his team.
