After more than five months in the works, HHGregg Appliance Store is open for business in Apex, bringing about 50 jobs.

The Chamber of Commerce and other town officials, including Councilman Bryan Gossage, welcomed the business with a ribbon-cutting and key to the town before a long line of customers flooded the door around 3 p.m. Thursday.

"We really are excited that HHGregg has chosen Apex to open their 14th location in North Carolina," Gossage said. "It's brave to open a new location in this economy, but we're thrilled they're doing it here in Apex."

General Manager Pat Meffert said Apex was the perfect location to expand.

"Apex is up and coming and that's what we look for when we open a new location. You get a place that is growing and you grow with it. Apex fit that bill for us," Meffert said.

Now through Sunday the store is holding its grand opening sale with 20 percent off all merchandise.
