DURHAM, N.C. -

A group of teachers at the Durham School of the Arts is asking school board members to allow their kids to attend the school where their parents work.

Alex Lamay is a science teacher at DSA. She says having her kids attend DSA would give her more time to spend with students afterschool. She says the extra time would benefit the students she teaches.

"It gets harder [to stay afterschool] when we have our kids that are not there," she said.

DSA Teacher Darrell Thompson said the group was willing to present a funding plan to pay for the additional students.

"What administrator wouldn't choose a policy change that would affect that many...teachers," he said.

Board members received information from the group about how the additional students would affect the school's population.

The board voted to review the matter at an April administrative services committee meeting.
