JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -

A state investigation into unlawfully dismissed DWI cases in Johnston County has gotten the attention of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

The group hopes to start a court monitoring program in Johnston County, according Craig Lloyd, the executive director of MADD in North Carolina.

Many other counties already have the program, which allows volunteers to help make sure justice is served, Lloyd said

"It tracks dismissals and why things were reduced and things like that. And we're able to see those trends and then be able to go in and help make a difference," he said.

The group has recently been speaking with the Johnston County District Attorney's office, the Sheriff's Office, and volunteers about launching MADD programs in Johnston County.

If you're interested in volunteering, they will hold a meeting at the First Baptist Church in Smithfield on April 21 at 7 p.m.
