A Durham non-profit fears it won't have enough Easter baskets to hand out to children this year.
"We've got a little less than 200 Easter baskets," Ernie Mills, co-founder of the Durham Rescue Mission, said. "But we gave away, last year, almost 700. This year -- we're actually hoping to have 750 Easter baskets."
The Mission hands those baskets out on Good Friday to children in need and those who are homeless.
"With the economy being bad -- most likely we will have more coming this year than we did last year, and one thing I don't want is to come Friday and we don't have a basket for each kid that comes," Mills said.
In addition to the baskets, the Durham Rescue Mission will give away about 10,000 pieces of clothing.
"I just think the economy is bad. Everybody is hurting and a lot of times they're trying to meet their own needs that they have," Mills said. "Our donors, last year, gave generously but this year they're hurting also. And so I think that's why we're lower this year than we have been in the past."
Those interested in helping can drop off Easter baskets at the Durham Rescue Mission at 1201 East Main St.
