The Garner Police Unity Tour Team will hold its last fundraiser prior to completing the 230-mile tour in early May. TGI Fridays will donate ten percent of proceeds from 4 p.m. until close on Wednesday, April 8 at the White Oak location in Garner. Members of the team will be on hand from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. to greet supporters.
Four members of the Garner Police have been training to participate in the Police Unity Tour, a fundraiser for the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC. Recent incidents in Pittsburg and Oakland remind us of the danger police officers face each day. While law enforcement deaths dropped in 2008, they are currently up 16% from the same period last year.
Garner Officers will be riding in memory of Trooper A.J. Stocks, who lived in Garner with his family. Stocks died in a vehicle crash responding to an emergency in the fall of 2008.
The four officers will ride from Chesapeake,VA with the Virginia Chapter of the Unity Tour on May 10 and arrive at the memorial in Washington, DC on May 13. They will have covered 230 miles in three days. To learn more about the tour, click here.
