Questions about what types of products you can use on your lawn?
A workshop will be held at Carrboro Town Hall at 7 p.m. May 13 to assist property owners and others in Carrboro in the correct application of inorganic or organic nutrients to properties in Carrboro.
Staff from the Orange County office of the Cooperative Extension Service will lead the workshop. The workshop will be appropriate for residential and commercial landscapes including lawns and turf, landscaped areas, and pasture.
The workshop is motivated by the Town's stormwater permit that requires the Town to address nutrients in stormwater runoff, and public input provided in response to a draft Town Code amendment addressing nutrient application within the municipal boundary. Properties greater than 2 acres that apply nutrients would be required to either have a certified party applying the nutrients, or to have created a nutrient management plan based on published guidance.
The amendment also encourages, while not requiring, all parties (regardless of acreage) applying nutrients to follow this guidance.
Additional information on the draft amendment is available at http://www.townofcarrboro.org/BoA/Agendas/2009/02_17_2009_E5A.pdf and http://www.townofcarrboro.org/BoA/Agendas/2008/10_21_2008_D2A.pdf.
Questions regarding the draft amendment can be addressed to the Carrboro Planning Department by calling 918-7326 or emailing rdodd@townofcarrboro.org
