Meals on Wheels of Wake County recently received two grants from The Wal-Mart Foundation. On June 15, during the grand opening ceremony for the new Morrisville store, Meals on Wheels received a $5,000 grant in support of its work in providing daily, weekday meals to homebound seniors and persons with disabilities.

A second grant of $25,000 was awarded to Meals on Wheels by the NC Advisory Council of The Wal-Mart Foundation. In presenting the check the Foundation noted "We believe that your organization is doing important work in the communities you serve, and we are proud that we are able to support you in your efforts. Thank you for the work your organization does to create opportunities so people can live better."

Meals on Wheels of Wake County services are open to any senior adult over the age of 60 who lives in the county. The organization is celebrating its 35th anniversary. The first meals were delivered in 1974 and, since then, close to 6 million meals have been served. All services have an emphasis on low-income, minority populations, and others who may be socially, economically, or physically disadvantaged.
