Durham Public Schools reports that preliminary test score results show the number of schools making Adequate Yearly Progress jumped from seven to 22 schools. There are 51 schools in the DPS system.
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measures the yearly progress toward achieving grade level performance for each student group in reading and mathematics. Schools make AYP when all students meet targeted goals for proficiency. Student groups are: 1) the School as a Whole; 2) White; 3) Black; 4) Hispanic; 5) Native American; 6) Asian; 7) Multiracial; 8) Economically Disadvantaged Students; 9) Limited English Proficient Students; and 10) Students With Disabilities.
The following schools made AYP: Burton, Eastway, Eno Valley, Creekside, Holt, Little River, Fayetteville Street, Mangum, Morehead, Parkwood, E.K. Powe, Pearsontown, R.N. Harris, Southwest, C.C. Spaulding, W.G. Pearson and Y.E. Smith Elementary Schools; Carrington, W.G. Pearson, Rogers-Herr and Shepard Middle Schools and the J.D. Clement Early College High School.
Durham Public Schools reported that results show the proficiency gap between White students and African-American students on end-of-grade tests was reduced by 4.2 percentage points in reading and 6.2 percentage points in math. The proficiency gap between White and Hispanic students was reduced by 6.7 percentage points in reading and 9.5 percentage points in math.
