Hillsborough is considering banning smoking at all of its parks.
This comes after complaints from citizens about smoking near the playground at Gold Park, the newest and largest park.
Kristin Sides, Hillsborough resident, spends lots of time at Gold Park with her three kids. She said she enjoys the clean, natural environment which she said would be enhanced if the town bans smoking at its parks.
"It just ruins the atmosphere if you're out here at a public nature place and you smell someone smoking," said Sides.
Kelley Rorie agreed and said he'd be concerned about his kids' health if smokers were around.
"We don't smoke in our family and we don't like it displayed around our kids," said Rorie.
But Max Preston, a non-smoker, said while he believes it should not be around kids, he thinks a ban takes it too far.
"Smokers have the right to live, it's not unconstitutional or against the law to smoke," said Preston.
Some said the restriction would also be tough to regulate. The town board will consider the recommendation at its meeting on July 27th.
