LUMBERTON, N.C.
North Carolina man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife nearly six years ago.
Multiple media outlets reported Thursday that a Robeson County jury returned the life sentence for Myron Britt on Thursday afternoon after only 40 minutes of deliberation.
The same jury had convicted Britt on Tuesday of killing Nancy Britt, a Wake County teacher, at her sister's home in Lumberton in 2003. Prosecutors say the Cary businessman killed his wife to collect more than $800,000 in insurance.
A trial in 2006 ended in a hung jury when one juror refused to take part in deliberations.
Prosecutors had been seeking a death sentence.
