DURHAM, N.C. -

Among the signs directing incoming Duke students to their dorm rooms, there are others warning about H1N1.

"There's probably been more preparation for the possible advent of the flu on campus than just about anything we've done this summer," said Michael Schoenfeld, Vice President for Public Affairs and Government Relations.

It comes after flu-like symptoms showed up on campus during the summer and after more than 20 football players came down with them after a recent practice. Administrators say those players are all recovering and will eventually return to practice.

"They have been consistent ... maybe even milder than those cases of regular seasonal flu," Shoenfeld said.

Students said they've paid attention to things like memos and e-mails warning about H1N1.

"There are a lot of things around campus. You'll see not only the bulletin going up but we have posters all over the place: ‘fight the flu,'" said Duke Sophomore Justin Torosian. "I think if testing and treatment continue to happen, I don't think it'll be a problem on Duke's campus."

Shonfeld said crews have put hand sanitizers across campus: in every bathroom and in freshmen welcome packs. They'll pass them out at all public events, too.
