The Apex Police Department teed off Tuesday for a good cause at Lochmere Golf Club.
The Apex Police Department Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Golf Tournament is just one of the many events through the year that raises money for more than 38,000 athletes of all ages.
Law enforcement agencies from all over the state raised about $1 million for the cause. Corporal Joey Best said Apex is donating about $12,000.
"It's been a really good turnout and we'll raise about $8,000. With these economic times it's a great thing we're doing to help those with intellectual disabilities that participate in sports through the Special Olympics," Best said.
Besides the golf tournament, the Apex Police Department also held a slam dunk contest at the high school and other fundraisers throughout the year.
