Second Saturday is Kid's Day at the Raleigh City Museum! On October 10, from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m., learn about the State Fair. The State Fair comes to Raleigh every October and has been a part of our city's history for over 100 years. Learn about how the fair began as a way for farmers to display and sell their crops and animals. Even though the fair has changed over time, we still enjoy seeing all the animals and tasty food farmers bring to the fair. Kids will solve State Fair riddles, create paper plate pumpkins, and families can check out our reading corner featuring books about the fall and farming. Admission is free.
Second Saturday is a new children's program offering at the Raleigh City Museum occurring the second weekend of every month. Each month will cover a new theme and aspect of Raleigh history. Kids will enjoy craft stations, reading corners, and the overall museum experience as they learn about our Capital city.
The Raleigh City Museum is located in the Historic Briggs Building at 220 Fayetteville Street. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday, 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m. and Saturday, 1:00pm-4:00pm. Admission to the museum and programs is free. The permanent exhibits are, It Started With One Thousand Acres: Raleigh and its People, Raleigh's City Flag: 100 Years, and Let Us March On: Raleigh's Journey Towards Civil Rights.
