What a joke this poll is!! being illegal is a crime . Plain and simple Why should they be rewarded for breaking the law ? Wouldnt you want the law to be inforced if someone broke into your home and then told you they were not leaving. They washed your dishes and mowed your lawn so they now have the right to live in your home also. Crossing our border Illegally and living in our country is no different . As far as getting an education. NO NO NO I do not believe that they have the right or should have the right to an education, and as far as our country educating the thousands of Illegal children that are in our school system already (they are taking from the children that are americans) The parents as well as the children should all be deported!! FIX YOUR OWN COUNTRY!!!! NOT ONE AMERICAN COULD EVER GO TO MEXICO AND DEMAND THE RIGHTS THEY COME HERE AND DEMAND THAT WE GIVE THEM!!!!

Who's saying anything about welfare, we just built a brand new school in Siler city with tax payers money for illgal immagrants or anchor babies. Plus alot of the female wit until 8 month in pregnancy, sneak into the country and deliver their baby. Anchor baby and automatic welfare for the child. Quit living in a world of fantasy that does not exist. You my friend are not keeping up on the times that this country just printed a bunch of money from nothing and we are beyond broke. My roots go back to Norway, but the minute my ancestors came here, they were Americans. Years back it didn't cost the tax payers for a immigrant to come to Americas and were self reliant. Now it cost us a fortune. North Carolina spends 1.3 billion dollars a year on illegal immigration, study done by the Fair org. You need to check out the statistics at UNC OB?GYN dept and get some facts on illgal births and the cost to tax payers.

I am often flabbergasted at the amount of arrogance in this country, yet it never ceases to amaze me. How can so many of you insist that illegal immigrants use your taxpayer dollars to go on welfare? It simply is not possible. I truly wish to see the day when people such as yourselves will actually take the time of day to do some thorough, unbiased research and thus will find that much of what the mainstream media reports simply is not true. To answer the question, I do not believe that students of Illegal status in this country should receive the "in-state" tuition discount, rather they SHOULD pay the out-of-state rate as they are not paying government taxes(hither-into they might be paying state & local taxes). However, how can you say that they should go and study where they came from? If they truly were allotted the opportunity to study in their homeland or had even half of the wonderful opportunities that our lovely country offers, wouldn't you think that they'd rather be there with their families and native peoples than her, in a country where they legally do not have any rights because of their status? I should think that yes, they would rather be there indeed. I beg of you fellow citizens to inform yourself rather than to be mediocre and settle with whatever facts you where told through the television or talk-show radio. They are not receiving free health care or free benefits as is suggested in the latter comments, and if you were to do a little bit of follow-up on your responses, you should find that it is much more difficult to obtain a visa than one may think. What we must do is go to the roots, their governments, and REQUIRE that they create more opportunities in their own countries for the good of globalization as well as help them in their current demographic transition.

if yall's asses where immigrants yall wouldnt be saying none of this unfair crap!!

I think that everyone should get an education, but don't feel they should pay in state fees. Does anyone realize how many legal NC children want to go to school but can not!
By MadMommy on 09/21 02:48 PM
Am I the only person who thinks that the cost of educating an illegal immigrant is an unfair use of taxpayer dollars? How about the fact that an illegal immigrant with a college degree still can't work in this country without a legal identity or legal resident status? What are we paying for? An illegal immigrant to get a degree and break our laws to work here under the table or use falsified documents? Am I missing something? Why not deport them and let them get their degree in their country of origin? Then at least they can get a job there and contribute to the community that provided them the benefit of their education. The taxpayer gets no benefit from encouraging illegal immigrants to get educated in a country where they are not allowed to work.

Our Children are suffering and our grandchildren will suffer if Illegal Immigrants are allowed to live here under the radar illegally in our country and our Govenrment looks the other way. They should not be able to go to school here Period! If they are here Illegally they can not marry Legally they can get on Foodstamps and Medicaid while the men they shack up and have Anchor babies back to back with are being born in the USA, getting social security numbers that way, just look at all these Illegals driving NEW CARS, they have found ways to beat OUR System and will continue to do so until something is done about it, Our Economy has gone to hell in a handbasket thanks to Illegal Aliens as our government chooses to be blind. I just wonder if my kids and grandkids social security numbers are being used by someone illegally and we don't / won't know it untill something comes of it or after they turn 18 and find out that it's been used and thier credits been ruined. My Grandson at 3 might own a truck or house about now and don't know it. Illegal's DO NOT BELONG IN OUR SCHOOLS !

Now that E-Verify is becoming a nationwide verification application to extract 20 million plus illegal immigrants from businesses. It is now growing in aggressive performance for placing true US workers in the job line and outing illegal labor. This operation should now extend to certainly more purposeful uses? That means not just federal contractors but everybody who draws a pay check? Should a health care reform pass all obstacles in the House and Senate chambers, it could have an invaluable function of checking people who are not only applicants for jobs, but health care reform registry. Illegal immigrants are already getting free emergency hospital care and--WE--pay for it. In the future it should be considered to vet a person’s nationality status, when applying for a mortgage? The United States banking system, financial institution were all but swept away on a deluge of corruption that has very sinister undertones in an organization called ACORN. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform now is under state and federal investigations at this very moment. Other involved institution impacted both Freddie Mac/Freddie Mae and a scheme incorporating underhand minority lending practices. But you might not have heard any of this, from the liberal media about the massive illegal alien mortgage accusations. The whole debacle was the involvement in a corrupt enabling banking industry and ethnic lobbyists, using unethical methods, along with Bush administration to guarantee loans for low income and people that could not possibly afford mortgages. Didn't Wall Street, the government regulators learn anything from the Savings and loan crisis in the 1980? GOOGLE—Michelle Malkin, she has her own blog and also Google illegal immigrants—mortgages—home loans. Find out about the shady deals which had a massive impact on the 2009 real estate crash. In Addition read how we as citizens and legal residents can demand permanent E-VERIFY. Tell the politicians in Washington at 202-224-3121 It’s about time they worked for the USworking man/woman, instead of paying-off favors to the wealthy business lobbyists? NUMBERSUSA & JUDICIAL WATCH has more answers about corrupt lawmakers and the issues that effects us all. HELP AMERICA SURVIVE. BETTER START COUNTING YOUR PENNIES, BECAUSE IF THE DEM'S PASS ANOTHER AMNESTY--WILL HAVE MILLIONS OF MORE DESTITUTE ILLEGAL ALIENS AND FAMILIES TO SUPPORT!. THE BUSINESSES THAT HIRE THEM WILL NOT! If the Democratic leadership forces through a path to citizenship or blanket AMNESTY--the US will also have irreversible OVERPOPULATION guaranteed and massive hikes in taxes to support illegal alien families. Incidentally, as a middle of the road voter, I certainly would entertain a public option for the less financially capable in my family circle, but I'm adamant NO-HEALTH CARE FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN THIS REFORM.

Abosulately not! Why in the world is this subject even being entertained? H-E-L-L-O!!!!!!!!!---they are illagals. Why are they not being deported instead of being treated with open arms to every single thing our government can provide to them while our own citizens can get very little, if anything. This is ridiculous. The purpose of getting an education/training is to go to work in the future, right? How do illegals expect to go to work after earning a degree if they NOT suppoosed to be working in this country without a degree. Do they actually think that doors will be wide open for them because of a degree? They'll still be illegal!!! What's next...free college tuition through grants and scholarships? Or, let's just cut them a break and let them go for free and add the cost of their tuition to an existing student's tuition. There ya go! Attack your own people, once again.

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" —Emma Lazarus, 1883 I too believe in the promise of Lady Liberty. But you know what the immigrants who were greeted by the Statue of Liberty did? They stopped at Ellis Island, where they registered and applied for residency.

Even if we have to go many generations back most of us Americans came from other lands looking for a better and more secure future. There are many people that get over on the goverment that are not illegal immigrants who dont even try to better themselves and go their whole lives living off of our hard work. These are the people we should worry about. If a person gets an education I am sure that they will not be applying for any help. How many healthy, young people dont we walk by each day who are given an opportunity to succeed don't because they know they can say they tried looking for work and couldn't find anything yet they are at home being lazy watching T.V? I would rather be standing next to an educated illegal immigrant than a lazy person who is bleeding the system. Its funny how people who are against illegal immigrants getting an education can go to church, pray and still have so much hate. God did not create borders. These young adults that are trying to go to college have already been through the school system for most of their lives they are not at fault that their parents brought them here illegally, some have been here since they were just babies and didnt even know they were illegal till they wanted to get their drivers license and couldn't or wanted to go to work to help the family out or wanted to enroll in college. We have already invested our taxes for 12 years of education why would we want to flush that money down the drain now? Why would we not want these same people to in return succeed and be given the chance to contribute as well? Oh don't forget God did not create borders.
By Gin on 09/17 10:05 PM
I believe that if a person wants to attend college they should be allowed to do it regardless of their immigration status and yes they should get lower in-state tuition if they reside in NC. These illegal immigrants do pay taxes and they support businesses in our state. Tomorrow when you go to that restaurant, grocery store, mall, dealership, church etc... Look around you and see how much immigrants influence our states well being and how much is invested by them. Why would anyone in their right mind want to deny anyone an education? If a person truly has a desire to go to college to better themselves and live in the state they should get in-state tuition rates period.
By Nshzhill on 09/17 07:29 PM
I agree with the person who said that they shouldn't even be allowed in the State College System. They are called Illegal Immigrants for a reason. They are breaking our laws. If any Illegal Alien tries to get state or feederal assistance of any kind or try to get the benefit of an education in the U.S> they should be arrested and have to either go thru the LEGAL immigration process or be deported!
By Nshzhill on 09/17 07:25 PM
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Illegal immigrants should not get ANY benefits. No Food Stamps, No Medicaid, No In State Tuition or anything else. I am an American Citizen. Born here and have worked here in the U.S. for 45 years. I am now on Social Security Disability because I can't work. Yet I'm not eligible for Food Stamps or Medicaid be cause I make a few dollars over the limit (never mind that food prices have almost doubled in the last year and that the State, in it's infinate wisdom raised the sales tax by a full percent). I'm disabled and quite ill but can't afford to even pay an income based clinic. After 45 years of working in this country and paying taxes I can't get any help from either the state or the federal government, so please explain to me why people who are breaking the law, and who have never paid taxes should get benefits when I can't. NO WAY NO HOW.
By a on 09/17 07:22 PM
The proposal that was discussed and voted on clearly states they will pay out-of-state tuition. This poll is clearly inflammatory and misleading.
By June on 09/17 07:09 PM
No, they should not be able to pay just the lower in-state tuition. We do not let American citizens from other states attend our community colleges and pay in-state tuition - why should someone who isn't even a citizen get a break on the cost? If they want to go to college, good for them, but they should pay what out of state residents pay.
By Randy Dye on 09/17 06:56 PM
What a slap in the face to tax payer and our immigration laws, we need these liberal moon bats out of office
By NCFIRE on 09/17 05:58 PM
Your poll question is flawed. The question should be: "Should illegal aliens be allowed in our comminity college system?" I realize what the Board of Directors decided today, I was at the protest however, the Board was not elected and the citizens had no voice in the matter.
By Progress on 09/17 03:09 PM
If you want this country to progress everyone should have a change to get an education. And by the way, undocumented people pay taxes when they make purchases, work and buy cars and houses. They are big part of the economic boom of NC.

Are you kidding? Is this even a question? I for one work two jobs and go to school and I am not getting a free ride. Why in Gods name should someone that does not pay taxes, gets free health care also get free education? Why dont they try helping out the NC residents that are legal or citizens of the US FIRST! If you want to be here so bad than become legal and stop bleeding the system, but you cant really blame them can you? We allow it!
