The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a citizens' informational workshop on Thursday, Sept. 24, for a proposed greenway along the Neuse River in Clayton.
The workshop will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Town Hall Council Chambers on 111 E. Second St. Citizens are invited to drop in and speak individually with NCDOT officials, as well as review the project area map in an informal setting. NCDOT will consider the comments and suggestions received during the workshop as the project plans are refined. There will not be a formal presentation.
NCDOT proposes to build a multi-use 3.5-mile trail along the Neuse River from the Johnston/Wake County line to Sam's Branch Creek. The Neuse River Greenway is part of the larger Mountains-to-Sea Trail and will run parallel to the Neuse River, with one crossing anticipated near Covered Bridge Road (State Road 1700).
Right-of-way acquisition is underway. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2010.
