DURHAM, N.C. -
North Carolina Central University is experiencing a power outage due to a cable fire at a construction site, according to University officials.
The fire ignited at the construction site for the Latham Parking Deck on the northeast corner of Lincoln and Lawson Streets.
Power company crews are on scene and officials expect the power to be restored by 5 p.m. today.
Classes up until 5 p.m. have been cancelled. University officials will reassess the situation at 5 p.m. and will determine whether evening classes will be cancelled as well.
University officials say all but essential employees are free to leave the campus.
