The tournament, a memorial to Emily Wade, was held Monday, Sept. 21 at Landfall Country Club in Wilmington, N.C. Emily Wade was 5 years old when she passed away in 2006. Emily and her family called the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill home during her 10-month battle with an inoperable brain tumor. The "Play for Emily" tournament was originally organized to ease financial burdens on the Wade family during Emily's treatment. After her death in July 2006, Emily's family decided to continue the tournament, partnering with local McDonald's owner-operators to give back to the place that was there for them in their biggest time of need. The tournament was a four-person captain's choice played on the Jack Nicklaus course at Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. Golfers received a breakfast courtesy of McDonald's and beverages throughout the day. At the 19th hole after-party, lunch was served and winners were announced. Sports fanatics had the chance to bid on Duke and UNC memorabilia. The Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill provides a "home away from home" for families of children who are receiving health care at area hospitals. The House offers physical comfort and emotional support through programs dedicated to the well-being of the whole family. The House receives 7 percent of its funds from the generous support of McDonald's. The remaining 93 percent is received from money raised through corporate and individual donations and special events like the "Play for Emily" golf tournament. For more information about the tournament and Emily's story, visit http://www.emilysmiracle.com/.###
