The Orange County Partnership for Young Children, the local Smart Start agency, invites young artist ages 6 months to 6 years to participate in the 2009 Young Children's Art Contest. The theme of this year's contest will be Family and Community. Children's original drawings on 8 ½ x 11 will be accepted now through October 30, 2009.

The Partnership launched the Young Children's Art Contest to recognize the importance of the arts in early childhood development. "Introducing art and creative activities early in a child's development bolsters the potential for self expression and independent thought. Art allows each child to show and develop a better sense of self and their environment." said Margaret Samuels, executive director of the Partnership.

Enter today! Following an opening event at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro, up to 15 art pieces will be displayed in sites throughout the county and on the Partnership's website from February through October 2010.
