WAKE COUNTY, N.C.

October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and many student organizations at North Carolina State University are helping to support the cause. For example Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Zeta Sorority and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority have been in the brickyard selling ribbons and collecting Yoplait yogurt lids in order to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

According to www.breastcancer.org one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Although this is a high rate, there is some good news. Breast cancer death rates have been declining since 1990. By 2008, 2.5 million women had survived breast cancer. Many feel the higher success rate is due to awareness and early prevention and detection.

There is still a chance to help these organizations raise money for a great cause. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Zeta and Zeta Tau Alpha will be in the brickyard on Thursday October 22, 2009 accepting donations and giving away Yoplait yogurt in order to keep the lids and raise money for breast cancer awareness.
