WAKE COUNTY, N.C.

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 27, 2009)-Bruce Bokish, MS Events director and race coordinator of the Ridgewood Turkey Trot (www.ridgewoodturkeytrot.com) announces today Mizuno, Fleet Feet Sports, Raleigh, and the Ridgewood Shopping Center as presenting sponsors. In its sixth year, the Thanksgiving Day race benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Eastern North Carolina.

"The Turkey Trot is an annual tradition that we are thankful to be a part of," says Bob Morris, owner of Fleet Feet Sports, Raleigh. "It's a fun and energetic way to start off Thanksgiving Day and benefits a great cause."

Registration is up more than 40 percent compared to this time last year and is expected to surpass last year's turnout of 1,744 people. A Triangle-area tradition, the 2009 event will feature a competitive and noncompetitive 8k race, a one-mile fun run and a kids' dash.

"We are thankful for the community's continued support of the Turkey Trot," says Bokish. "We have great expectations as the event moves into its sixth year."

The race is sanctioned by U.S.A. Track and Field and is held on a certified course. The fastest male and female runners in each competitive division will receive prizes from Fleet Feet Sports, Raleigh and Mizuno. Every one hundredth competitive race finisher will receive a free pair of Mizuno shoes.

Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S. and 2.5 million worldwide.
