Student Charged With Attempted Murder After Hitting Girl With Hammer

RALEIGH, N.C. -

A 17-year-old accused of hitting a fellow student with a hammer now faces attempted murder charges, police said Thursday.

Angelo Womack, of Raleigh, was arrested Oct. 30 at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, where he and the victim are both students. The victim was treated and released from WakeMed.

Womack, who remains in jail, allegedly entered a classroom and struck the victim with a hammer.

He was originally charged with assault with a deadly weapon and intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Those charges were upgraded to attempted murder.
