After months of stalemate, the Town of Cary is apparently done playing nice with a resident who spray painted a message on his house.
William Bowden says the town's road project has ruined his home due to drainage issues.
Since July, he's expressed that frustration with a unique way, with a giant hand-painted message across the front of his Maynard Road home reading "Screwed By The Town Of Cary."
Cary officials say it violates the town's sign ordinance, and have asked him to remove it.
If the sign is not down a week from Thursday, the town intends to start fining Bowden; $100 the first day, $250 the second day and $500 every day after that.
"He's left us with no other choice but to apply the standards and to have strict enforcement of them," said Susan Moran, a spokesperson for the Town of Cary. "We wish it weren't that way, but he's really left us with no other choice."
Officials say it's not the message but the delivery they have a problem with; town code says residential signs can't be bigger than two square feet or use "fluorescent pigments."
Bowden did not return our calls asking for comment.

I live around the corner from this guy. Was fun the first few weeks and was surprised to see it lit up at night. Now going into the 3 and 4 month mark, this is getting old.

The Town offered to fix all of his problems, including ones he had before Maynard was widened. The Town has gone out of their way for him but he just wants them to buy his house, period.

A cheaper and better way to fix this situation is for the city to fix what they did. I bet if any of the city council had to live in that house it would be done already.

William just needs to prove that he does not have a really big sign. He has 22 (One for each letter) "2'x 2' " signs that form a collage that sends the message.
