DURHAM COUNTY, N.C.

This is a time of year where we all count our blessings and say our thank yous. I'd like to say a big thank you to all host families of all international exchange students in our viewing area and beyond.

Ask most international exchange students what they have learned after staying with an American family for a semester or a year. You'll hear all kinds of answers. Answers from "I learned what snow felt like" to "I learned how to play American football" to "I learned to be more thankful". What makes this all possible? Host families. Host families are required to provide two meals a day and a place to sleep and a place to study. That's what's required. However, much more is given.

I have been working with exchange students for years now and I see the wealth of love that is heaped upon these students. I see late night talks of home countries and loved ones missed over cups of tea. I see the patience spent working with one who's English maybe is a bit shaky in the beginning. I see the time spent planning the perfect trip to the lake, Disney, or NYC, not because they have to, but because they want to. I see families at the airports with students leaving to return home, everyone weeping because a member of their family is leaving!

Host families make it possible for students from all over the world to come to America and experience American culture beyond what one can see on TV. Host families make dreams come true for thousands of exchange students every year and without these families, these students would not be living their version of the American Dream. So, I want to say Hip Hip Horray for Host Families and thank you to all host families who help make programs like this so successful!

Terra Lingua USA is currently seeking an additional families. We have several more students that wish to come to our area for the 2nd semester. The students come with their own spending money, health insurance, and speak English. They attend high school. All family types are encouraged to apply. Please contact Crystal at 919-413-3652 if you would like to find out more about how to host one of our amazing students.
