Toyota drivers around the Triangle are reacting to the massive recall and suspension of sales of some of the company's most popular models.
"My car is a Toyota and I love it," said Marjorie Menestres, who owns a Camry-the best selling car in the country and one included in the recall. "It was a surprise, and I hope it's not going to bode ill for the company."
Toyota is voluntarily pulling eight models off the market because of safety concerns about faulty gas pedals that can stick and accelerate the vehicles.
The models include:
'09-'10 RAV4, Corolla, and Matrix
'05-'10 Avalon
'07-'10 Camry (certain models)
Current Highlander
'07-'10 Tundra
'08-'10 Sequoia
"It's been very good, but we have felt just a little bit of gunning, occasionally, but nothing dangerous," said Dorothea Bitler, an Avalon driver.
An Avalon was the vehicle involved in a fatal accident in Dallas in December. Four people died when the car accelerated out of control, crashing through a fence and flipping into a pond.
The complaints and Toyota's actions have some drivers paying close attention to how their cars are running.
"It does worry me, like if I had my foot on the brake and it does pick up speed or doesn't stop, that does concern me a lot," said Eric Wright, a Camry driver.
