Symphony, Ballet Pieces Created For Nasher Show

Credit: AP Online
DURHAM, N.C. -

A new symphony piece and a new ballet will be performed as part of the Nasher Museum of Art's exhibition featuring art during the reign of Spain's Philip III.

The exhibition titled "El Greco to Velazquez: Art During the Reign of Philip III" opens Aug. 21 and continues through Nov. 9 at the museum in Durham.

Also participating is the North Carolina Symphony, which has commissioned Duke University music composition professor Stephen Jaffe to write a piece based on the exhibition and the music of El Greco's time. The symphony will perform Jaffe's work Oct. 2-4 in Chapel Hill and Raleigh.

Carolina Ballet artistic director Robert Weiss will create a new ballet titled "Don Quixote," based on the Cervantes novel.
