It could be another sign of the slowing economy. One of the largest crowds in years turned in applications at the RBC Center's part-time job fair Monday.
The arena needs to fill about 400 positions, ranging from ticket takers and security to ushers and food service. The pay starts and minimum wage and goes higher, depending on the position. Employees will work Carolina Hurricanes hockey games, NCSU Basketball games, as well as concerts and other events through early summer of 2009.
Arena officials were surprised by the turnout.
"It's possible people are looking to supplement their income and get a part time job," said Cyndy Coffey, the RBC Center's Human Resources Director. "It's also possible with higher gas prices people are looking to not drive so far to pick up some extra money."
The job fair continues Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
