Wake County Animal Control said Friday that a fox bit a person and a litter of kittens on Thursday.
Animal Control officers responded to the scene Thursday night but could not find the fox.
The fox was found Friday morning after being hit by a car. Animal Control officials said the head was too severely damaged to test for rabies. They said the fox could have been an aggressive animal and not infected with the disease but there is no way to know for certain whether or not is was rabid.
The litter of kittens had to be euthanized as a precaution. Animal Control said the kittens were not old enough to be vaccinated for rabies therefore they had to be treated as if they were exposed to the disease.
