Eric Staal isn't worrying about ironing out a contract extension to keep him with the Carolina Hurricanes for a while.
The All-Star center said Tuesday during the team's media day that he's confident a deal will be done to keep him with the franchise that drafted him in 2003.
General manager Jim Rutherford has said one of his top priorities is signing Staal to a long-term deal. He is entering the final season of a contract that will pay him $5 million in 2008-09, and he would be eligible for restricted free agency after the season if no new deal is reached.
Staal said he wants to stay with the Hurricanes, and he knows the team wants to keep him. He said it's now a matter of finding common ground.
