DURHAM, N.C. -- Southern School of Engineering Teacher named Kenan Fellow
Miriam Morgan, a teacher at Southern School of Engineering, has received the prestigious designation of Kenan Fellow from the Kenan Fellows Program for Curriculum and Leadership Development at N.C. State University.
The Kenan Fellows Program promotes teacher leadership, addresses teacher retention and advances K-12 science, technology and mathematics education. Kenan Fellows are public school teachers selected through a competitive process to participate in a two-year fellowship while remaining active in the classroom.
During these two years, Kenan Fellows work in partnership with distinguished scientists, university faculty, and the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, developing curriculum and teaching resources that bring cutting-edge research into the hands of students. Teachers are required to submit projects on which to develop with mentors.
Morgan's winning project was "Engineering Skills through Problem-Based Learning."
Her mentors were Nancy Shaw of Project Lead the Way at Duke University, and Gigi Karmous-Edwards of MCNC.
